Untitled - Something New

It’s been a while since I’ve last created any concepts or worked on any themes, so here’s a nice lengthy post to make up for that. I had gone on a rather long Photoshop/Firefox hiatus, due to my lack of creativity and motivation at the time. Over the course of that break, my motivation had slowly been restored, and now I am eager to begin delivering new, high quality themes to everyone. My newest creation doesn’t quite have a name yet, so we’ll simply refer to it as Untitled.

Untitled is one of the first themes I’ve designed entirely by myself, with Josh’s guidance and feedback along the way, while most of our other themes have been inspired by another application or interface (TwentyTen, Metro, Raven, and so on). This makes this one a great deal more special than our other concepts or themes to us personally. This theme has gone through many stages behind the scenes, and has proven to be very versatile, which can be seen in the following screenshots. My original vision incorporated the tabs into the URLBar for a compact, but functional single-toolbar workspace.

Josh and I continued brainstorming, and decided that we should test out some other tab configurations to fall back on in case my original vision didn’t prove to be as usable as I had initially thought it to be. Thus the following came about. Tabs on Top - Sprouting from the URLBar to maintain an uncluttered appearance, effectively providing the navigational buttons their own space.

Tabs on Bottom - Following the design scheme of the Tabs on Top variation, these tabs sprout from the bottom of the URLBar.
Traditional Tabs on Bottom - The standard Tabs on Bottom layout.

I began working on bringing this theme to Firefox itself, and also implemented a few new ideas along the way. I know a major issue that has sprung up regarding my latest concepts was the lack of the Firefox button. The concepts introduced a very large gap at the top left corner of the window, where I had removed the Firefox button. I decided to restore the button to it’s original location, but have it also sprout from the Navigation buttons in a similar fashion to that of the tabs, creating a consistent look across the entire browser. Buttons placed in the tabs toolbar also received the same treatment.
We look forward to hearing your feedback on this one, and to all who celebrate, Merry Christmas!
